Why Home Health Care?
Modern technology and treatment methods allow use of home care to meet most care needs. This is true even for individuals who are terminally ill.
1. Home care is delivered at home. Our home is our castle. For most of us, it's our favorite place to be, whether we're sick or well.
2. Home care represents the best tradition in American healthcare. Home healthcare began as early as the 1800s as public agencies to seek out the poor and the needy who otherwise would go without care. Now, in the 1990's, the need is even greater, and many of those who are served by home care throughout the nation are in need, usually because of the tremendous hardships caused by their illnesses.
3. Home care keeps families together. There is no more important social value than having the family together. This is especially important during times of illness, disability and recovery.
4. Home care services help keep the elderly independent. Dignity and independence are preserved as long as possible for thousands of Oklahomans every year.
5. Home care promotes healing. According to the National Association for Home Care, scientific studies, and millions of home care patients and family members, patients heal more quickly at home.
6. Home care is a very effective form of healthcare.
Home Health providers are best able to monitor the total care delivery system, which also involves the patient and the family.
7. Home care is the only way to reach some people.
Much of Oklahoma is considered rural. It is not unusual to have a homebound individual who lives in a very rural area. The home care nurse regularly comes to that patient's door to provide care and to check progress.
8. Home care reduces stress. Unlike many other forms of healthcare, which can increase anxiety and stress, home care can have the opposite effect.
9. Home care is a cost-effective vehicle for healthcare delivery. State statistics show that home care visits usually run about $65. In comparison, a day in the hospital runs over $1,000, and nursing home care is about $100 a day.
10. Home care, when appropriate, is the preferred form of care.
